Smoking during pregnancy may be associated with an increased risk of bipolar disease

A study recently published in the American Journal of Psychiatry suggests that there is an association between smoking during pregnancy and increased risk of developing bipolar disorder in adult children. The study aimed to, for the first time, assess the relationship between maternal smoking and bipolar disorder in offspring, which includes ‘externalizing’ symptoms among its many manifestations.
