Mood disorders are broadly categorized into depressive disorders, including Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and dysthymia and bipolar disorders, characterized by alternating episodes of depression and mania or hypomania. Understanding the biological, psychological and social underpinnings of mood disorders is crucial for developing effective interventions and improving patient outcomes.
