A United Nations report indicates that there will be an increase in the number of older adults during this century compared with the last century . It is postulated that by 2050, the number of older persons in the world will exceed the number of younger adults for the first time in history. The percentage of older adults in the world will double to almost 21% over the next 40 years. Worldwide, the number of people who are aged 65 years and older will increase from 500 million to 1.5 billion over the next three decades.
